Dining out in Sunninghill

The Royal Berkshire Hotel has recently opened its new restaurant. The 18th century Queen Anne mansion, located in 15-acres of landscaped grounds in London Road, Sunninghill, will be home to FORK.

FORK will be run by executive chef Jamie Brown.

For starters the menu offers: crispy duck croquettes with spring onions and sweet chilli dip; barbecue steak with Applewood cheese, roasted onion and confit garlic; and English mozzarella from ‘Laverstoke Park’ in Overton with San Marzano tomatoes and ‘pick your own basil’.

Main courses will include: royal bream, tarragon and crab risotto with shellfish cream; lightly salted cod, couscous paella, chargrilled prawn and chorizo bolognese; and grilled poussin with barbecue sweetcorn, creamed polenta and shallot herb dressing.

The Grill offers beef or East Berkshire lamb from ‘Hornbuckle Farm’ in Warfield, served with thick onion rings and a side dish.

For dessert there is a choice of: chocolate and praline mousse, an Eton mess ‘our way’- fizzed strawberries, vanilla foam and crunchy meringue; a ‘fairground plate’ composed of mini toffee apple, doughnuts, ice cream cones, marshmallows, candyfloss, sweet popcorn and dipping sauce; and a cheese platter, some of which is supplied by ‘Two Hoots Cheese’ in Berkshire.

The restaurant displays several unique design features carefully picked by Nicholas Hollinshead Interiors, including an eye-catching oversized ‘3D fork’. The restaurant also boasts a bespoke window wine display, holding up to 220 bottles at variable temperatures, allowing guests to see into the restaurant as they pass by.

The à la carte menu will be available each evening from 6-9.30pm and a traditional Sunday Lunch will be served between 12.30 and 4pm.

FORK also has two adjoining private dining rooms: “Colonel Horlick” and “The Orchard”, which host up to 10 and 16 people respectively.
